Description

Delicious apple fritter bites that are baked to perfection and topped with a sweet glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 1/2 cups finely diced Honeycrisp or Gala apples (about 2 medium)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup + 2 tablespoons apple cider or juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F and grease a baking sheet with nonstick spray.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk the melted butter and sugar until well combined. Then add the egg, vanilla, and applesauce, whisking until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Gently fold in the diced apples.
  5. Scoop out 1 tablespoon portions of batter and place them a few inches apart on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 10 minutes. Then, remove the sheet from the oven and turn on the broiler to high.
  7. Make the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar and apple cider or juice until it’s thin and pourable.
  8. Brush some of the glaze over the warm fritter bites, letting it drip down the sides. Broil for about 3-4 minutes, rotating the pan frequently, until the glaze starts to caramelize and bubble.
  9. Remove from the oven and brush the remaining glaze evenly over the tops of the fritters.
  10. Let the fritters sit for 15 minutes to let the glaze set before serving.
