Description

Delicious puff pastry hearts filled with hummus and pesto, topped with fresh strawberries and served warm!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (gluten-free or regular!)
  • 1 egg, whisked (for egg wash)
  • Hummus (any flavor)
  • Pesto (homemade recipe linked in notes)
  • Fresh tomato, basil, etc.
  • Nutella (linked my healthy nutella in the notes!)
  • Fresh strawberries (for topping after baking)
  • Jam

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment.
  2. Lay the sheet of puff pastry out flat. Cut it in half vertically and horizontally to have 4 squares.
  3. Cut each square into 4 smaller squares.
  4. Use a cookie cutter to cut a heart shape out of the center in half of the squares.
  5. Use a fork to poke holes in the remaining halves.
  6. Brush the squares with holes with egg wash.
  7. Place the heart squares on top of the holed squares.
  8. Put a small spoonful of hummus & pesto inside the heart cut out (don’t add too much).
  9. You can also add tiny chopped tomatoes and parmesan if desired.
  10. Pop the tray in the freezer for 10 minutes.
  11. Bake directly from the freezer according to the box instructions, flipping the pan halfway through for even browning.
  12. Once golden, they’re done!
  13. Top them with fresh basil and serve on a cute board for a fun serving option.
